the Olde English word "Alor" (Alder) and "Sceat"
(Patch of land)
Up
until 1853 Aldershot was a small quiet hamlet. Then everything
changed. the, then called , "War department" purchased
25,000 acres of land and created what is now Aldershot barracks,
home of the British Army. There is a military shrine in Manor
Park, named: "Heroes Shrine" that is dedicated
to those fallen in WW2.
