Town Name: Altrincham

Aldhere's Village: "Aldhere" is a Saxon man's name and "Ham" means village

Originated as a quiet market town until the early 19th century when Manchester began to spread to surrounding districts during the Industrial Revolution when the town became involved in cotton weaving. However, since the decline of the cotton industry the town has become predominantly residential, with many people commuting into Manchester to work.
