Town Name: Ampthill  (Emmethill)

The ant infested hill - Saxon name for ant = "Emmet"

Ampthill originated with a 15th century castle on top of a hill.  Henry 8th sent Catharine of Aragon there while he arranged his devorce from her. This fell derelict in the 1700's. A cross marks the spot where the castle once stood, and there is a 350 acre park surrounding it.
